Managing Staff Development

The success of an organisation is dependent upon its staff, meaning a motivated workforce is more likely to make an effective contribution to the objectives of an organisation. The managing Staff Development qualification looks at methods of identifying both strengths and weaknesses of employees, whilst adopting positive approaches when giving feedback or encouraging further development. The legalities of staff development is another element within this qualification to promote equality and understand the impact of all types of discrimination on the workforce.

Course Content

  • Explain the purpose of performance reviews and appraisals
  • Explain techniques to prepare for and carry out appraisals
  • Provide a private environment in which to carry out appraisals
  • Carry out performance reviews and appraisals in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
  • Provide clear, specific and evidence-based feedback sensitively
  • Agree future actions that are consistent with appraisal findings and identified development needs
  • Describe training techniques that can be applied in the workplace
  • Analyse the advantages and disadvantages of learning and development interventions and methods
  • Explain organisational learning and development policies and resource availability
  • Review individuals’ learning and development needs at regular intervals
  • Suggest learning and development opportunities and interventions that are likely to meet individual and business needs
